The Paper Flower Project

Creating an anonomyous safe space to ask questions, give opinions and share stories about how gender effects our lives.

What is it?

The Paper Flower Project is an evolving immersive artwork that is shaped by the participating public's questions, comments and stories relating to gender and how it has played a role in shaping their lives.

You can participate by filling out an anonymous survey online, by attending a workshop or by visiting a Paper Flower Station and filling a form out in person. You have the choice of posting your letter in the post box on site or alternatively you can take an envelope and send it to our P.O Box at a later date

The aim of the project is to provide a safe an anonymous space where people can share and ask questions without fear of reprisal. We cannot change what we do not acknowledge, but we cannot acknowledge what we do not know.

The Paper Flower Project will use the information collected in two ways. The first is by turning your letters into flowers. Female identifying people are represented as roses. Male identifying people are represented as sunflowers. Non Binary identifying people are represented by daisies.

Positive experiences, genuine questions and comments are represented as growth in the garden. Stories that have negative experiences, connotations/sentiments and hate will be represented by varying states of wilting to death of the garden appropriate to the content that is submitted.

It is important to note that some stories have duality. That some stories are traumatic. Some show how the smallest action can be hugely influential in a person's life and that it can be wonderful and powerful action or an equally powerful blow.

The second way in which the information collected will be used is to accompany the garden and be shared for others to read. People will be able to learn, relate or answer the questions left by contributing participants. At no time will there be no names or identifing information collected or shared. For the integrity of the artwork relies on the assurance that all participants can remain anonymous.

Workshops

If your organisation is interested in holding a workshop please send your inquirey through to paperflowerproject24@gmail.com . Workshops can be run to include a diverse group of people regardless of age or gender.

Theycan also be tailored exclusively for groups of men ( The Sunflower Forest), women ( Paper Rose Project) and Non Binary people ( The Daisy Chain) as well as specific age demographics from Primary School to Senior Citizens.

Our aim is to be as totally inclusive as possible so if there are special considerations that need to be taken into account please discuss these with us so we can work together and provide the support your group requires.

Paper Flower Project Stations

If you would like to have a Paper Flower Garden station set up at your work, school or any other location please get in contact and we can send you out our posters at no charge. Depending on your location we may also be able to provide writing stations and letter boxes.
